There is something deeply personal about introducing yourself again when people have come to know you in a particular way. You wonder how to explain the change, where to begin, and how much of the journey to share. For those who have known me through Sacred Rise, this is my opportunity to welcome you into a different part of my world: my life as Claire Louise Carter, author.

I write psychological thrillers and stories that explore the darker complexities of human relationships. I am drawn to what happens beneath the surface: the secrets people carry, the intentions they conceal, and the distance between how a relationship appears and how it feels to live inside it. I am equally interested in what happens when someone begins to question everything they have accepted as normal.

Some of you may already know that writing has been part of my life before this change. I have previously published under the name Claire Cappetta. Becoming Claire Louise Carter as an author gives me space to bring my writing into the next chapter of my life, with a clearer sense of the stories I want to tell and the future I want to build.

Why I’m changing direction

Sacred Rise grew from a desire to support others as they explored healing, self-worth, spirituality and personal growth. Those subjects have mattered deeply to me, and they still do. I know how much it can mean to feel heard, particularly when you are trying to find your footing after a difficult chapter.

But over time, I began to recognise something in myself. The emotional and mental energy involved in continually supporting others was leaving me tired. There was always another conversation, another piece of content to create, another way to offer encouragement. Meanwhile, my own creative ambitions kept waiting.

It took honesty to acknowledge that. Caring about people had become so closely connected to my working identity that choosing a different direction felt uncomfortable. I had to ask myself what I wanted my days to look like, what work I wanted to return to, and what I was postponing while trying to remain available to everyone else.

The answer kept bringing me back to writing.

I wanted time to develop characters, follow an unsettling idea, and discover where a story might lead. I wanted to make room for the concentration that a novel asks of you. More than anything, I wanted to give this part of myself a proper chance.

The stories I want to tell

Human relationships offer endless possibilities for fiction because so much can exist beneath ordinary moments. A familiar voice can become threatening. A gesture that once seemed thoughtful can begin to feel controlling.

Someone can share your home and still keep an entire part of themselves hidden.

These are the tensions that interest me as a writer.

My stories explore subjects including abuse, coercion, stalking, fear and survival. I want to approach those experiences with care, while writing novels that make readers feel compelled to turn another page. Suspense matters to me, but so does the person at the centre of it: what she notices, what she doubts, and what it costs her to act.

I am particularly drawn to women finding their independence while still carrying the consequences of what happened before. Leaving a dangerous situation does not necessarily make everything simple. There may be practical difficulties, conflicting emotions, loneliness or the frightening possibility that the danger has followed.

That gives a character difficult choices to make. It also creates space to explore courage in ways that feel human. Sometimes courage is a dramatic decision. Sometimes it is admitting that something is wrong, accepting help, or trusting a feeling you have repeatedly been encouraged to dismiss.

Making room for the work I love

Since deciding to focus on my author career, I have felt excitement return. I find myself thinking about storyboards, characters, rewriting and the possibilities within the books. There is work ahead, of course, including learning how to introduce those books to the readers who might connect with them.

I know that writing professionally involves more than sitting down with an idea. There will be editing decisions, website changes, marketing plans and days when the words refuse to cooperate. I am prepared for that. What feels different is my willingness to engage with those challenges because they belong to a direction I want to pursue.

There is anxiety in changing careers, especially when you are building something whose outcome you cannot guarantee. I have felt that too. But allowing myself to take writing seriously has brought a sense of relief alongside the uncertainty. I can put my energy into a body of work I care about and give it time to grow.

I am also learning that I do not need to describe this as becoming an improved version of myself. I feel more comfortable seeing it as giving myself permission to be who I am: a woman who loves storytelling and wants to make it central to her working life.

What you’ll find here

As my website changes, you will begin to see more about my novels, the characters within them and the questions that shape my writing. I will share glimpses of the creative process, news about my books and reflections on the human relationships that make psychological fiction so absorbing.

For those who have followed Sacred Rise, thank you for being part of that chapter. I understand that this new direction may appeal to some of you more than others, and I appreciate the connection we have shared.

If you are discovering me for the first time, welcome. I hope you will find stories that draw you close, unsettle your expectations and leave you thinking about their characters after the final page.

My name is Claire Louise Carter. I am an author, and I am ready to give the stories waiting within me the time, attention and commitment they deserve.
